PIERREGLAS, A STORY MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED YEARS IN THE MAKING

Since 1914

Our story begins in 1914 with Pierre Pionnet, the glassblower that founded our company. He was situated in Schaerbeek, where he specialised in glassware for laboratories.

When he retired in 1936, he left his business to Léon Pierre, one of his customers. On that takeover, the company moved to the heart of Brussels, where Léon decided to expand his trade in pharmaceutical products by adding a glassblowery, allowing him to further develop his own activities in the hospital sector.

Our grandfather, Gustave Pierre, joined his uncle Léon's workshop in 1940. He gained experience and became foreman before finally taking over the business in 1968 and setting up shop at 14 Courtoisstraat in Molenbeek.

Emmanuel Pierre

On 1 July 1985, a new successor took over: our father Emmanuel Pierre. For him, 'investing' was key in order to expand and so he purchased glassblowing lathes, furnaces and higher-fire burners (suitable for working larger diameters, for example), among other things. But of course he also had to master the intricacies of the actual craft for which he could count on the guidance of our grandfather Gustave and some glassblower friends.

Sonia Ruymaekers

But our father did not go at it alone: indeed, his wife Sonia Ruymaekers, followed the same apprenticeship. In 1999, they also united professionally in PIERRE E. Ltd., ensuring the continuity of the company and providing financial resources for further expansion.

Vilvoorde

This ambition quickly outgrew the premises in Molenbeek and as such, in May 2003, the company relocated to Hellestraat 30 in Vilvoorde which has been its basis of operation ever since. This move allowed for continued growth of our production capacity meaning that the potential of our machines could be maximised.

The succession

And our story does not stop here, because thanks to us, succession is assured for the future. In 2010, two of us, namely Virginie and Stéphanie Pierre, joined the company, followed by the third sister Mélanie to complete the team in 2017. And with the three of us, the fifth generation has made its first steps in the company, with a clear ambition: to carry our parents' legacy into the future, and to cope with a rapidly changing economic context. That way, we can continue to meet new challenges we receive from customers and partners.

Our team

One of the great advantages of a family business is that we are a close team. We work intensively together and know each other particularly well. We also always try to create a pleasant working environment for our employees, who have been with us for more than 30 and 15 years respectively. And who have been doing more than their bit for the quality of our glass every day for just as long.
